Analysis of MPPSC 2012 Prelims Paper-I (General Studies)
MPPSC Prelims is a relatively easy and high scoring examination, MPPSC Prelims (2012) cutoff was 306/400(General) which is more than 75% .
The Questions asked are of basic nature without requiring much in-depth knowledge of any of the section. For basics i have suggested NCERT at most of the places which can be downloaded from NCERT website for free in both English and Hindi Medium.
There is scarcity of online resources for General Studies related to Madhya Pradesh.
It would be better if you buy a book containing consolidated topic wise syllabus of MPPSC Prelims General Studies, but here also we have limited choice.
Scroll down for Study Material Links.
Section-Wise Preparation Strategy for MPPSC Prelims:-
FIRST PAPER: GENERAL STUDIES
1. General Science and Environment
Questions on general science and Environment (Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity & Climate
Change) will cover general appreciation and understanding of science including matters of every day
observation and experience as may be expected of a well educated person who has not made a special
study of any particular scientific discipline.
Note : Read Science NCERT's from Class 6th to 9th(Available in Hindi and English, both).
Click here to download NCERT books
2. Current Events of National & International Importance
In current events knowledge of significant National and International level will be tested.
Notes for preparation:
- Current Affairs to be prepared would be from Last Year prelims.
- You can refer any of the Annual current affair yearbook for last year current affairs followed by reading a newspaper daily(Very Essential).

3. History of India and Independent India
In History, questions of general knowledge related to social, economic and political aspects will be
asked. Also, there will be questions on Indian National Movement and Development of Independent
India.
- Read Class 7th, 8th History NCERT book.

- After gaining basic knowledge, go for Class 11th & 12th NCERT. This would cover most of the questions related to geography in prelims.
- For latest demographics and census refer the current affairs yearbook.
(b) General Geographical awareness of world.
- Last Year, we had a question asking through which countries does the equator pass and another one asking about which is the City of Canals. So general questions are asked about the Geographical Awareness of the World. You can find this information in any General Knowledge(Not Current Affairs) book.
- I also recommend to get a good idea about World and IndiaMap.
5. Indian Polity and Economy
Political system and constitution of the country, Panchayati Raj, social system, sustainable economic
development, elections, political parties, plans, industrial development, foreign trade and economic
and financial institutions.
-Very Important part : Every year a large number of questions are asked from this section.
- For Political system and constitution of the country, Panchayati Raj, social system, sustainable economic development, elections, political parties, plans : Refer Class 6th,7th,8th,9th Polity NCERT.

M.P., India, Asia and World.

10. Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) 1989 (No.33 of 1989) and the

SECOND PAPER : GENERAL APTITUDE TEST
1. Comprehension2. Interpersonal skill including communication skill
3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
4. Decision making and problem solving
5. General mental ability
6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, order of magnitude ect.-Class X level) Data
interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.-Class X level)
7. Hindi Language Comprehension Skill (Class X level)
- The above sections can be mastered by continuous practice, if you are not from Maths background read Class 7th-9th NCERT to learn the basics and then buy an Aptitude and Logical Reasoning book for practice.
In MPPSC 2013 Prelims, Paper II Aptitude was a bit lengthy and difficult compared to MPPSC 2012 Prelims, this suggests the improving level of this paper. This paper importance increases many fold in case of Paper I (General studies) being easy, it becomes the main deciding factor for selection.
You can refer to General Aptitude book published by Arihant Publications specially for MPPSC
Currently available in Hindi & English Medium both.

Dear Sir/Madam, First of all thanks so much for guidance & tips to prepare for General Studies / aptitude papers. Also please confirm does a candidate have to choose optional papers in prelims or only at the time of attempting mains.
ReplyDeleteChoice of Optional Papers is to be filled only at the time applying for mains and not in Prelims Application.

ReplyDeleteBy the ways thanks a lot, your blog really means a lot to me.
Hi Shaheen..Thanks
DeleteI don't have idea about MP Ek Parichay, but you will need at least one book for General Studies related to MP.I would suggest that you go through the related books available in market and then decide.Refer Newspapers for MP events.

Deletehi, i have just written civil services mains examination 2013, can u kindly guide me where all mppsc and upsc converge. thank you
ReplyDeletep.s- you are doing a wonderful job guiding students !!!!
Hi Ananya..Thanks
DeleteMPPSC Prelims is on the same pattern as UPSC and much more simpler, there is extra(small) part of MP General Studies which could be easily done before prelims.
You just need to prepare for MP General Studies and an extra subject for mains as MPPSC still follows the old mains pattern. MPPSC has some optionals having very limited syllabus like Criminology and Military Science which can be done in relatively lesser time. The standard of questions is also relatively lower than UPSC.
Go through the Old year prelims and Mains paper to get a better idea.
hi, thanks for your efforts. could you please guide or suggest me about pros and cons of choosing anthropology as mains subject. i am from pharmacy background. please provide me material and links.
ReplyDeleteHi Pankaj

Sorry can't help you.
hi, thanks for your efforts. could you please guide or suggest me about pros and cons of choosing anthropology as mains subject. i am from pharmacy background. please provide me material and links.
ReplyDeleteSir, thanks for your precious guide....Is it right decision to buy GS book of TMH..because it is costly.
ReplyDeleteTMH GS Manual is good and contains all the subjects for Prelims GS.If you buy it then you don't need subject wise books.
Deleteor If you need only for General Knowledge then you can go for TMH General knowledge Concise avbl for Rs.160

ReplyDeleteCan u plz tell me form which month i should start reading current affairs for 2014 mppsc exam and the book related to m.p Geography, History and Culture polity.
ReplyDeleteLast year prelims was held on 24th Feb, so to be on safer side you should start reading current affairs from Jan-Feb 2013.
DeleteArihant has introduced a book containing full syllabus for MP general studies but it's not available currently, till then you can go for 'Know your MP' or any other book related to MP General Studies (But Latest Version with updated Facts and Figures)
thnks....
Deleteif i m in English medium than paper 2 point has Hindi language comprehension skill than i will study English or Hindi instead or it
Plz tell me Which book I prefer for prelims in english medium.

DeleteNCERT are for the basic idea,For more in-depth knowledge read history from any General Studies Manual.
You can also refer to History Special Edition of Monthly Competitive Exam Magazines.
Most of the Prelims Questions can be answered by studying it , as it provides a overview of all the topics.

i hv been regularly reading news papers and india today.(keep in touch for current affairs)
but for others what should my strategy to clear pree for 2014.
pls send me reply
Hi,
DeleteAs you know the pattern for MPPSC has been changed now, i think you should focus more on Paper-II that is General Mental Ability, it becomes more important in case of moderate level of Paper-I.
The standard of questions in prelims paper i is more of a general overview type of subject without going in depth of that subject, so you don't need in depth knowledge for the subjects at least for prelims and you have plenty of time to cover all of them.
I would suggest you first go through previous year papers to get an idea about latest pattern then start on subjects as i have suggested and with special emphasis on Paper -II which would require good amount of practice.
Feel free to ask any other Q's you have.
:)
hello..... please provide me with the names of books on Geography, history and culture of MP alongwith polity and economy of M.P in English....as there are none available online nd if there are some these are out of stock......plzzzz help
ReplyDeleteHi Rushabh,
DeleteThere are no subject wise books available in market for MPPSC, very limited books are available in English and as they are not available i would suggest you search for them in local market or buy any hindi book for the time being till english book is available.

Hi Saurabh,

Go through the previous year papers and get an idea, then start with subject wise preparation as i have specified already.
Follow Current Affairs regularly, practice daily for Paper-II topics.
:)
how to prepare for hindi part ..cud u plz provide some material or some specific topics which i sud prepare for hindi part in paper II...
ReplyDeleteLast year we only had unseen passages for hindi part, which were easily doable.
DeleteJust practice some unseen passages and read Muhaware,Lokotiyan coz they could be asked among passage questions
sir plz plz tell me a gud source for ICT i.e information and communication technology.

ReplyDeleteplz tell me in which med (hindi eng ) is better book for general studies paper ....
ReplyDeleteBetter General studies books are available in Hindi medium.
DeleteDear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI am a mechanical engineer working in a MNC, I want to know which subjects will be more easier and preferable for the mains, I don't think taking engineering subjects for mains will be beneficial for me as they are too deep and take a lot time to prepare. Also as the cut off is same for all the candidates, those subjects can make me down among all. Please suggest, waiting for your guidance.
You are doing a great job.
Hi Ashish,
DeleteThanks, Sorry i don't have much idea about engineering subjects, but 'Military Science' and 'Criminology & Forensic Science' would be more easier subjects as they have very limited syllabus and question asking scope and take much less time to prepare compared to engineering subjects.
yes i also think they would be much better than Engineering subject.
Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI am more of concern about mains exam.
Getting lot of info about the prelims, but how should i look for the mains exam.
I am a civil engineer.
Please guide me.
Hi Vikky,
DeleteYes you are right, one should start mains prep as well with the prelims if possible. There are many topics overlapping in GS syllabus of prelims and mains which can be finished simultaneously .Have you decided about the subjects for mains? If you are confident in civil engineering then you can take it as your subject but first go through Mains syllabus available on MPPSC site or you can also go for new but smaller subjects like Military Science, Criminology.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am an inhabitant of MP but have been living in pune for lasr two years and working in IT sector.I have two questions.
Quest1:How to prepare for mppsc while working?
Quest2:How to be updated in MP current affairs as there is no MP news papers available here in maharashtra?
Plz sugest?
Hi Lalit,
DeleteYou have to devote 3-4 hours daily apart from extra hours(as much as possible) on weekends. If you are giving exam this time then you would have started your prelims prep, Prelims prep can be easily done with above mentioned effor and MPPSC usually gives around 5-6 months gap between Prelims & Mains which are sufficient for mains preparation.Go through the syllabus 1st and buy the required books accordingly. Don't buy all of them at one go, first finish a book and start another.
You can set Google News Email Alert for MP(http://www.google.com/alerts) and they will send you daily mail with MP News filteres or you can personalize news.google.com to add 'Madhya Pradesh' as a topic then all the MP news will be filtered for you or you can read Epapers available online. :)

ReplyDeleteHello Sir,
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job !! Really very very helpful. U have solved all my queries in just 1 go.. I am Astha, based out of Hyderabad. I belong to MP and want to prepare for MPPSC 2015. I am a B.Tech and MBA HR from IBS Hyderabad, currently working with an MNC in Hyderabad. I need your continuous guidance throughout my journey. I have TMH GS 1 & 2 both, however need to start my prep yet. Could you please guide me how to start preparing for 2015 prelims as I wanna get thru this xam in one go. Do you think I can do this ? Can you help me with a daily plan for getting a good rank in the xam..as my objective in not only to clear the xam but to get the position which i m desperate about...kindly share your insights.
Thanks in Advance !!
Astha
Hi Astha,
DeleteThanks..yeah you can absolutely do it, As you are targeting 2015 prelims, you have ample time to prepare for MPPSC Prelims as well as mains. I would suggest you to go through the syllabus & previous papers first as you would get an overall idea about the pattern/level of exam.
Start going through the News/Current Affairs daily from today itself, Read a newspaper daily, subscribe any competitive exam magazine. Paper - II (Aptitude & maths)is mostly based on practice and as you are from engineering background i think you won't have much problem in it.
Paper- I needs more time in terms of vastness of syllabus and nature of topics most of which require memorizing the facts. Start your preparation according to syllabus topic wise and before starting the TMH Manuals go through the NCERT for basics. Plan(Very Important) your overall preparation calendar(covering prelims paper-I syllabus,paper-II, mains, revision) depending upon how much time you can devote daily. Finish off prelims preparation first then go for Mains prep as MPPSC generally provides huge time in between them.(7 months last time). You can mail me on avid.docs@gmail.com for any other questions..:)
hello sir :
Deletei want some study material for mp psc , could u plz send me on palavisharma89@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteRes. Sir,
ReplyDeletePlz Plz Plz Sir Help me
I am Priyesh ,,,,
Sir mene abhi class 12th ki exam di he Dist. Mandsaur se or 64% aae he to kya aap muje he bta paenge ki mere 12th ke percentage ke hisab se muje MPPSC ki teyari krna chahiye ya , nd agr karna chahiye to kaha se krna chahiye i mean Indore ya Bhopal se, bcoz muje ye smj nahi aa raha he ki me agr abhi se teyari krunga to 2019 tak wo preparation kam aaegi ya nhi kyo ki pattern bhi change ho skta he.
Plz Plz Plz Sir Help me
Hi Priyesh,
DeleteIt's good that you can start your preparation so early, i don't have much knowledge about Coaching centers of Indore/Bhopal so i can't help on that. Yes, pattern can change so for now you can read the topics like History/Geography/Polity which won't change much. Also develop a habit of reading newspapers/current affairs .:)
Res. Sir , Mera ek or question he ki jaha tak mene sari information li he to muje pata chala he ki prelims me GS. ka paper hota he uski preparation to me ARIHALNT ki book se kar lunga jesa ki aapne sbhi ko saggest kiya he, wo sare comment mene pade he ,,, so muje ye smj nahi aa raha he ki Prelims ka second paper nd Mains ke sabhi papers ki preparation kese karu nd kyoki sir meri age or graduation ke hisab se muje ab 4 year ka time mil raha he so me koi risk nahi lena chahta hu ,, me chahta hu ki me MPPSC ki preparation 4 year tak puri kr kr 2019 ke attempt me MPPSC clear kar lu......
Deleteto sir kya 4 year ki prepartion me puri MPPSC ki preparation ho jaegi .....????????????
Plz sir help me
Haan abhi se Arihant ki book se preparation karne ki jarurat nahi hai...itna time hai to abhi basic se start karo, Pehle NCERT padho phir dusri books.
DeleteHaan 4 year me kaafi aaram se ho jaegi.:)
Mains ke liye subject decide karke coaching join kar sakte ho, 4 saal me kaafi pattern change ho sakta hai isliye abhi to aise subject choose karna jinki Mains optionals me se hatne ki probability kam ho.
Paper- II ke liye reasoning/Aptitude ki book follow karke, jyada se jyada practice..:)
hi sir,
ReplyDeletecan you plz suggest me the subject which i can opt for the mains that could be relatively easy for preparation. I am an engineering student with electronics and communication branch.
Military Science & Criminology are 2 easy & small subject for mains but if you are preparing for UPSC also then you can go for Sociology, good for both MPPSC & UPSC and one of the above subjects.
DeleteEngineering subjects are not much preferred but if you are confident in Electronics engg you can go for it also.
but please tell me how scaling factor will affect taking engg subject as an optional one??
DeleteHello Sir,even i need ur help..my name is Reema singhal,i am also preparing for mppsc exams, have started preparing quite late, please send me the study material for both the exams(PAPER-1 GS and PAPER-2 aptitude test(in english). As fast as u can.

Deletesir ,
ReplyDeletei had just passed 12th standard. I want to prerare for the exam. So i shound go for which bachelor degree . BE (computer science) or BCA. plz suggest me sir...
Hi Rudresh,
DeleteThe subjects related to both the above degrees are not available as optional in MPPSC & as you are starting early, you can do good preparation while pursuing any of the above. So choose according to your interest & utility (as a Backup plan).
so
Deleteshould i start preparing for the exam now or i should concentrate on BE.
hello sir,
ReplyDeletesir plz suggest me that up to which month of this year (2014) we should prepare our current affairs..
eagerly waiting for your rply..

Hi Siddarth,

ReplyDeleteI am Ruchi ,doing mtech. before marriage i was never thought about mppsc becaoz i was an average student and busy with btech study. but now i have to give mppsc. can i prepare at home? or its necessary join a coaching? from where i have to start....pls guide me. if possible send me study material. ruchi_ece2009@yahoo.com
Hi Ruchi,
DeleteYeah Ruchi , you can absolutely prepare at home but coaching also may be helpful for guidance as you are totally new in this stream, you have to start from the basics which are NCERT's , which are very useful for building a sound base. Go through the previous year papers to know more about the pattern, difficulty level etc.
Prepare a proper plan topic wise, as you would be targetting next year MPPSC you can directly prepare for prelims + Mains at the same time.

ReplyDeleteHello, First of all, a big thank to the administrator of this blog for serving to aspirant community. I'm preparing to take on for 2015 MPPSC.I have started studying lately with full dedication. Bought GS -1 manual of TMH but surfing across your blog, I got in dilemma whether to go for TMH manual or NCERT books ? Do I have enough time to cover all the above-mentioned topics ? . Pre 2014 is going to be held 17 days later from now. When Pre 2015 is going to be held ? Apart from the Hindu for national & international news, which newspaper i should refer to for state news ? . If possible, could you send me the study material of Pre & GS 1 & 2 to Rebellious.boxer@gmail.com. Once again thank you. :)
ReplyDeletecan u plz send study material for both papers on esha1234@gmail.com :-)

Hello sir, apart from the daily newspapers, could you please suggest some names of magazines (hindi or english) which cover current affairs of only Madhya Pradesh?
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteI don't have idea of any magazine specifically for MP current affairs, you better visit any big magazine store and confirm there.
Ok. Thank you sir!! Which magazines do you suggest for MPPSC exam?
DeleteYou can refer any of the monthly magazines like Pratiyogita darpan, chronicle, CSR etc, they would help in covering Current Affairs , Sports part and also contains various objective exam papers, a very good source for practice questions.:)
DeleteSir thank you for ur valuable guidance..
ReplyDeletei want to ask that whether TMH manual is enough for mppsc paper 1 and paper 2?
yeah, TMH Manuals are more than enough for MPPSC prelims syllabus except for MP GS, Sports, IT part which are not covered in Manuals, also they contain large number of questions for practice.
